Okay, to get things started off productively here on the Rivendell Hair Blog, I’m going to repost a popular entry from my own blog (http://hairbykelsi.livejoural.com) that showcases some of the most popular hair trends right now. Feel free to comment, and enjoy! -kelsi
want to know what hairstyles and cuts are most popular right now? being in the salon at rivendell hair all the time, and keeping an eye on the street, i can tell you 3 of the styles that seem to be the biggest right now.
1. the inverted bob, also known as A-line bob. this bob is shorter in the back, and longer in the front. the severity of angle varies. originally i started seeing it without layers, but graduated layers in back have become more popular since victoria “posh” beckham starting popularizing the “pob” (the pob is shorter in back and on the sides, with longer, shattered lengths draping over from the top. also slightly asymmetrical). interted bobs are usually round brushed for volume on top and flat ironed to be sleek, but look cute curly too. here are a couple examples of two of erin’s clients. the first picture shows much more layering in back.

2. severe layered cuts, often a version of “scene/emo hair” and a modern take on the shag. this is popular for both short and long hair. this cut has longer perimeter lengths and shorter hair at the crown to add volume to the top. layers are heavily textured and perimeter is shattered so there are no blunt lines. this hairstyle is most often flat ironed, and the crown is teased and hairsprayed (a little or a LOT… think elvira) for additional volume. wispy extensions are common to add length. here are examples of two of my clients wearing shorter and longer layered cuts.

3. side bangs. these are worn with a side part and most commonly start somehwere between the eyebrow and the bridge of the nose, then taper longer toward the side of the face. some variations are much shorter, exposing the forehead above the eyebrows but more often are longer and start more deeply to the side than in previous years, to cover most or all of the forehead. the style can be controlled by putting product in and blow drying wet bangs to in the desired direction, and then finishing with hairspray. some longer versions may require a bobby pin to keep them under because the extra length causes more weight which makes it stubborn. here are two examples of my clients who wear side bangs, the second one being a much longer version with a deep side part, which requires a bobby pin or barrette to help control.
